Austinisters Are Doing It For Themselves, And You, And Art
Reader, while it’s our mission to bring you tantalizing Austin/arts/culture coverage on the regular, everyone who writes for us also has a day job and, very frequently, their own artistic endeavors. Here are a mix of mostly the latter in one easy-to-support list.
- Joseph Devens, the creator of our weekly-featured strip “Whale” is now Kickstarting to turn the adventures of Whale, IfTheodoreRooseveltWereARabbit, and Little Girl into an actual, for real book. “Whale” is ten years old, and Devens has also unveiled a brand new website to help celebrate.
- Daily Candy just announced the finalists of their “Start Small Go Big” campaign, one of whom is our own Amy Kritzer. In addition to her coverage with us, Kritzer has been examining Jewish cuisine through a nouveau perspective on her blog What Jew Wanna Eat. If she wins, gefilte fish is going to get a whole new following.
- Photog and comedy buff Arian Brumby is taking part in the Improv Fantasy League every Friday in August. Also, on the 17th her team will be competing as part of The Gathering of the Jollyville Juggalos.
- Music writer Jessica Skinner has started Homegrain with partner with Chris Brown, a project where the two create “customized rustic decor from reclaimed wood.” She says: “So far we’ve only done chalkboards – approximately twelve in one year, including two for Javelina Bar – but we would like to branch out to other projects.” { ...to continue reading this article: Article source: }
