Scott Henson vs. the APD

YNN.comIt would appear to be a case of he said-he said: Angry blogger and criminal justice activist takes to the Internet to blast a beleaguered Austin Police Department for yet another instance of power tripping on the city’s residents while the police chief goes on the offensive to defend his officers and refute some of the more disparaging rumors.
Scott Henson, author of the blog “Grits For Breakfast”, famous for its scrutiny of the Texas criminal justice system, wrote in a lengthy post on Feb.11th that APD had unjustly detained him and his 5 year-old black granddaughter. Henson said the police officers questioned both him and his granddaughter, Ty, threatened him with raised tasers, and then released them without so much as an explanation. This happened just after Henson and his granddaughter were questioned as they were leaving the Millennium Complex by a deputy constable, which according to the blog post, was simply because he was a white male walking with a young black girl.
What Henson didn’t know is that a frantic employee had called 911 to report the kidnapping of a black girl running from an older white man. Judging by the nature of the call, authorities had some cause for alarm. You can hear a snippet of the call here on Austin’s YNN News site.
